Today’s Activity:

Get out any stickers that you may have laying around and make sticker pictures.

Note:

If you have sticker books you can get those out too…if not I suggest buying some.  Elese got one for Christmas from her cousin and she LOVES it.

Evaluate:

This was a fun, easy, and quite activity.  My little ones just sat quietly and created pictures.  I loved how their pictures had meaning to them and that Elese put the same stickers together as if creating some sort of pattern.  Mostly I loved the quiet.

Today’s Activity:

Have a bad for you picnic.

Note:

So often I’m super strict about healthy eating but mostly because I’m dieting and don’t want to be tempted.  Take a break from your current health plan and enjoy some not so healthy snacks.

Evaluate:

Although I’ve already got a bit of a tummy ache this was a fun thing to do with the kids.  For the record we had 3 other kids over so me and the kids didn’t eat that all by ourselves.

Today’s Activity:

Have an at home Olympic event.

Note:

Don’t forget to make awards.

Evaluate:

Today my nieces and nephew were over so we decided to have the Human Olympics.  This consisted of relay races and even an opening ceremony with the National Anthem and all.  Following the competition I gave everyone a “medal” which was really just a round piece of paper.  I gave out different awards like “Best Sport”, “Most Graceful”, “1st place”, “Most Improved” and things like that.  I made sure everyone got an award and a piece of candy.  The kids had fun and got some good exercise which was nice and it broke up the day which had been filled with a crying little boy, an upsetting email, and a overflowing toilet.  It’s nice to just take the time to play and not worry about overflowing toilets.  Max didn’t get to play at first because he had a really bad attitude but eventually decided to cheer up and have fun.

Today’s Activity:

Go to a local sporting event.

Note:

If there isn’t anything near you or you don’t have the cash stop by a park in the evening and see if there are any games going on.

Evaluate:

We went to a baseball game.  This was a great thing to do as a family.  Max was even given a foul ball by a guy that worked there.  We went with my BIL and his family and Elese enjoyed eating all their peanuts and popcorn.  After Max got the ball he asked the Bee to sign it.  He was so excited when he looked and saw the signature of “Bumble.”  It was a great night.

Today’s Activity:

If you have a daughter give her a makeover.

Note:

Don’t let them do it themselves.  :)

Evaluate:

My cute nieces were visiting from Arizona and spending the night and we did Makeovers.  Elese loved playing with the big girls and getting all dolled up.  I’ve put make up on her before but never mascarra so this time, since it was a special day, I put some on.  Basically I just held it there and said “Blink” it still didn’t work out great and she said “There’s spiders on my eyes!”  It was a really fun night with Makeovers, games and movies and Elese joined us for all the fun.

Today’s Activity:

Have a girls night out.

Note:

If you can’t find a sitter then bring the kids along.

Evaluate:

My childhood friend Angel came and helped me paint our new place while my hubby was out of town and I’ve been promising her I’d treat her to dinner.  Not only did she help paint but she even climbed up on the big scary ladder to paint the inside of the stairwell.  I was so impressed because I was terrified.  Well I finally figured out a time to do it but my husband has a shoot so I would have the kids and didn’t want to pay a sitter.  I had suggested that we get take out and just hang out at my place when she said, “Why don’t we bring the kids and have a picnic at the park?”  What a brilliant idea especially for a girl without any kids of her own.  She’s a saint.  Not only do I get to hang out with my friend and visit but my kids will think I’m the greatest mom ever because I’m letting them stay up past bedtime to play at a park.  To save some money I fed the kids before we went because we all know that if there is playground equipment available they aren’t going to eat anyway.

Today’s Activity:

Play in the sprinklers.

Note:

You can join them or get some things done while they are entertaining themselves.

Evaluate:

After turning on the sprinkler for the kids I came in and folded some laundry while watching them from a near by window.  It was nice to have some quite time until Elese came in and decided that she needed to use warm water out of the sink “like a blow dryer.”  I’m not sure what that means but I do know that it involved a nice little puddle of water on the bathroom floor.  Silly girl

Today’s Activity:

Write in your kids baby books.

Note:

If you are all caught up on your baby books then maybe write your children a letter about the things they enjoy doing at this age.  Some baby books have a space for this.

Evaluate:

I really enjoy looking at baby books.  It’s amazing to me how quickly they grow and how quickly I forget the cute things they did.  That’s one of the reasons I try (emphasis on try) to keep up to date on their books.  I hadn’t answered the questions about Kindergarten in Max’s book yet but fortunately he was here to help me answer the questions.  As for Elese, she wasn’t too much help when I was trying to remember her favorite parts of her 3rd birthday party.

Wednesday July 21st, 2010

Today’s Activity:

Check out your local happenings and attend a kid friendly event.

Note:

Look in your local paper or google events in your local area for ideas.

Evaluate:

Everyone on facebook was talking about a free event just a couple of blokes away from my house.  This weekend is the Days of 47 parade and all the floats were at the Expo center for anyone to go look at.  The kids had fun and even got to climb inside one of the floats and work the mechanics of the float.  They had a fun time and Elese got her face painted and Max got a balloon shapped like a tommy gun.

Today’s Activity:

Work with your children on something they should be able to do developmentally.

Note:

This can be tying their shoes, dressing them selves, using a spoon, setting the table, reading a book…the options are endless.

Evaluate:

All summer I’ve been so busy and when I think of the things I was planning to do I get panicked and feel like I haven’t accomplished anything all summer.  It’s starting to overwhelm me so today I bit the bullet and made the time to teach Max to tie his shoes.  He gets so impatient and frustrated so it wasn’t something I was looking forward to.  Several weeks ago I looked up suggestions on teaching kids to tie shoe laces.  One of them suggested to sew (or tie) two different colored shoe laces together so that you can just say do this with the white lace and that with the black lace.  After only about 5 minutes Max had it down and called his Grandma’s to tell them that he now knows how to tie his shoe laces.  I’m so proud of him and also so happy to have this one thing off my to do list.  The best part is that it didn’t take nearly as much time and patience as I had dreaded it would.  Oh and the other best part was seeing him SO proud of himself.  At one point he said, “This is hopeless” but only moments later he did it perfectly and was so proud of himself.
