Today’s Activity:

Get out any stickers that you may have laying around and make sticker pictures.

Note:

If you have sticker books you can get those out too…if not I suggest buying some.  Elese got one for Christmas from her cousin and she LOVES it.

Evaluate:

This was a fun, easy, and quite activity.  My little ones just sat quietly and created pictures.  I loved how their pictures had meaning to them and that Elese put the same stickers together as if creating some sort of pattern.  Mostly I loved the quiet.

Today’s Activity:

Have a bad for you picnic.

Note:

So often I’m super strict about healthy eating but mostly because I’m dieting and don’t want to be tempted.  Take a break from your current health plan and enjoy some not so healthy snacks.

Evaluate:

Although I’ve already got a bit of a tummy ache this was a fun thing to do with the kids.  For the record we had 3 other kids over so me and the kids didn’t eat that all by ourselves.

Today’s Activity:

If you have a daughter give her a makeover.

Note:

Don’t let them do it themselves.  :)

Evaluate:

My cute nieces were visiting from Arizona and spending the night and we did Makeovers.  Elese loved playing with the big girls and getting all dolled up.  I’ve put make up on her before but never mascarra so this time, since it was a special day, I put some on.  Basically I just held it there and said “Blink” it still didn’t work out great and she said “There’s spiders on my eyes!”  It was a really fun night with Makeovers, games and movies and Elese joined us for all the fun.

Today’s Activity:

Play in the sprinklers.

Note:

You can join them or get some things done while they are entertaining themselves.

Evaluate:

After turning on the sprinkler for the kids I came in and folded some laundry while watching them from a near by window.  It was nice to have some quite time until Elese came in and decided that she needed to use warm water out of the sink “like a blow dryer.”  I’m not sure what that means but I do know that it involved a nice little puddle of water on the bathroom floor.  Silly girl

Today’s Activity:

Write in your kids baby books.

Note:

If you are all caught up on your baby books then maybe write your children a letter about the things they enjoy doing at this age.  Some baby books have a space for this.

Evaluate:

I really enjoy looking at baby books.  It’s amazing to me how quickly they grow and how quickly I forget the cute things they did.  That’s one of the reasons I try (emphasis on try) to keep up to date on their books.  I hadn’t answered the questions about Kindergarten in Max’s book yet but fortunately he was here to help me answer the questions.  As for Elese, she wasn’t too much help when I was trying to remember her favorite parts of her 3rd birthday party.

Today’s Activity:

Work with your children on something they should be able to do developmentally.

Note:

This can be tying their shoes, dressing them selves, using a spoon, setting the table, reading a book…the options are endless.

Evaluate:

All summer I’ve been so busy and when I think of the things I was planning to do I get panicked and feel like I haven’t accomplished anything all summer.  It’s starting to overwhelm me so today I bit the bullet and made the time to teach Max to tie his shoes.  He gets so impatient and frustrated so it wasn’t something I was looking forward to.  Several weeks ago I looked up suggestions on teaching kids to tie shoe laces.  One of them suggested to sew (or tie) two different colored shoe laces together so that you can just say do this with the white lace and that with the black lace.  After only about 5 minutes Max had it down and called his Grandma’s to tell them that he now knows how to tie his shoe laces.  I’m so proud of him and also so happy to have this one thing off my to do list.  The best part is that it didn’t take nearly as much time and patience as I had dreaded it would.  Oh and the other best part was seeing him SO proud of himself.  At one point he said, “This is hopeless” but only moments later he did it perfectly and was so proud of himself.

Today’s Activity:

Take the kids out to eat at a kid friendly restaurant.

Note:

Go some place that gives out kids toys.

Evaluate:

I try not to go through the drive through very often but it sure is helpful on grocery day!  Plus the kids were so good while we were out shopping and I had to feed them anyway so I may as well make it look like a reward, right?

Today’s Activity:

Have a family bike wash.

Note:

Kids seem to love playing with hoses so be sure to let them rinse off their bike.

Evaluate:

Max seemed to think it was lots of fun to spray the water into the air and wait for gravity to do it’s job and cause it to fall down on everyone moments later, Elese didn’t like this.  Elese had thrown a fit just a few minutes before we went outside so she was still very emotional.  Both of the kids loved drying off their bikes and saying, “Wow, it’s shinny.”  This was a really nice way to help them show a little more respect for their bikes.  It’s funny that Max’s bike wasn’t just thrown onto the lawn but it was carefully leaned up against the house.

Today’s Activity:

Participate in an act of services.

Note:

If you don’t have money to donate or time to give then give of your faith.  There are always families in need and it’s important to teach your children that even if they don’t have a lot to give that they can still help.

Evaluate:

Someone I knew from high school was hit by a care while biking yesterday morning.  She is a mother of two.  She has not been able to escape my thoughts.  I didn’t know her well.  She was beautiful and seemed to be on the brink of perfection.  As we heard of this I sat down with my children and told them that I love them and that there are two little children that are very sad right now because their mother was badly hurt.  Together we said a prayer for Bunny and her family.  This morning news broke that she passed away.  It breaks my heart to know that she has been taken away from her children in a tragic event.  If you do not have an opportunity to preform some monumental act of service today please at least hug your children, tell them you love them and have a prayer in your heart for Bunny’s babies.  Here’s the story about Bunny.  I will let you know if there is a fund set up for her family if you are interested in making a donation.

Today’s Activity:

Plan a date night for this week.

Note:

Don’t forget to schedule your babysitter.

Evaluate:

We’re going to go to the movies with friends on Friday and then just chill out at home on Saturday.  Mostly I’m looking forward to Saturday, I need some sit around a do nothing time.
