Today’s Activity:

Oktoberfest is sweeping the nation, or so I’m told.  This will be my first year participating in an Oktoberfest activity and I’m excited about everything except the Bratwursts…yuck!  Your community just might have some sort of organized Oktoberfest activity going on and you and your kids should attend.

Note:

If you can’t find anything then take some time to teach your kids about Oktoberfest (don’t worry, I had to look up the details about it too) and end the night with bratwursts, or hot dogs if you prefer.  Also, check out our Community section, you may just be able to find some information on an Oktoberfest event near you.

Evaluate:

I’m thinking I really need to invest in a melon baller.  My kids are still having trouble eating their apples but they don’t seem to mind just licking off the caramel.  I think I may have cooked the caramel a little too long because it is really hard.  I’m not sure if we will make it to tomorrows Oktoberfest event because the kids are starting swimming lessons and we have a few other things going on but I’m still hoping we can make it up to snowbird for just a few minutes.  I hope your caramel apples were a hit with your little ones!

Today’s Activity:

Make caramel apples with your kids.  I did this last year and we created some great memories.  I hope you enjoy these photos of us from last year.

Variation: One of our readers Tonii made this comment:

Lovin all the ideas!! Hey fun idea you prob

ably have already seen, but for the caramel apples

familyfun.com had a really cute idea. You use a melon baller to make little scoops of apple. Then you dip those in the caramel and put sprinkles on. We did this last year and it is awesome for the little kids. Keep up the

great work, I am feeling less mediocre already!

Here is the recipe for those caramel apples.  There are a few reviews of it that are NOT raving but Tonii loved them and I trust her so you decide which you would rather do.

Note:

This is our first activity in the kitchen and I hope you are looking forward to more.  We will have at least 2 days a month dedicated to cooking with your kids.  Also, be sure to let you children help and plan on having a nice mess to clean up afterward…it’s more memorable that way.  :)

Evaluate:

The library was fun but as always my kids were more excited about the cool toys they have there than they were about the books.  I didn’t have as much patience with my kids yesterday so I tried to evaluate what I had done differently when I realized that we didn’t listen to any peaceful music so I vow to not forget again today.

FYI Oregon readers we just added you to the Events section.  You’ve got lots of fun stuff going on for Halloween so check it out!
