Monthly Goal:

Today I helped my kids clean their room.  It was really more for me than it was for them but things look and feel SO much better now!

Don’t forget to leave a comment about something good you did today so you can be entered in our drawing for a $25 GC.  Go here to learn more about our giveaway.

Today’s Activity:

Turn tonight into a learning dinner.  While eating teach your kids about proper etiquette and how to behave while eating in public.  Turn this into a game if you can to get them more excited.  You could even come up with a secret silly word that will help them remember how to act when you are out at a restaurant.  You could even refer to each other as Sir and Mam.

Note:

If you want to have them dress up in nice clothes for this dinner it may help them sit more still.

Evaluate:

This ended up being a lot more fun than I thought it would be.  First off I told them that Bruce Wayne and Princesses eat at really nice tables and they are very proper when they eat.  I asked them a few thinking questions before we started, “If you pull on the table cloth what do you think will happen?  Should you wipe your mouth on your sleeve?  What should you wipe it on?  How do you properly ask for more milk?”  Then we got started.  I even set the table with our wedding china and a table cloth.  A table cloth is a HUGE deal for me.  In the end Max asked if we could do this every night.  We focused on using nice words and not interrupting so Max loved that he got all of our attention when he was telling a story.  We loved listening to Elese talk about her day because it really didn’t make a lot of sense but it sure was cute!  Not only was this a great teaching moment for the kids but I was reminded that dinner is about the kids too, not just getting in the necessary calories and catching my husband up on the day.

RECOGNITION!

Amy taught her kids about the Olympics and watched some with them.  You my friend are two steps ahead of me…that’s what we have planned for Saturday.  ;)

rolo cookies

Monthly Goal:

Today I let Elese take her time as we walked home from dropping off Max for school.  I enjoyed watching her collect sticks and sing a little song she made up, “Magic, magic come alive and count to number five.  One, two, three, four, five!”

Don’t forget to leave a comment about something good you did today so you can be entered in our drawing for a $25 GC.  Go here to learn more about our giveaway.

Today’s activity:

It’s baking day!

Note:

If you would like you could bake something Valentiny and leave some on a neighbors door step as a special Valentine surprise.

Evaluate:

We were having a cookie exchange for a church activity so we decided to bake my favorite cookies, Rolo cookies.  We’ve made them here before.  Here’s the link with details.  My kids love them and they can help unwrap the rolos without getting in the way of the actual baking.

Recognition!

Joylyn took her kids to the adventure club at their mall.  I’ve never heard of that but it sounds like fun!

Come on ladies!  You all deserve some recognition.  What did you do today?

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Monthly Goal:

Today I didn’t yell at Max when he was starting to loose it while doing his homework.  I don’t know what it is but he has been crying a lot lately about the dumbest things and I’m beginning to loose my patience but I didn’t today.

Don’t forget to leave a comment about something good you did today so you can be entered to win a $25 gift card.  Go here to read more about the giveaway.

Today’s Activity:

Plan a date night with your sweetie.

Note:

This is Valentines weekend so plan something extra special.  We usually sit around and wait for the man to be romantic but I’m sure he’ll be thrilled if you surprise him with a little romance.

Evaluate:

This was an easy one for me.  My in-laws have a Valentines dinner dance at their church every year.  It is always so much fun so that will be our date this week.

RECOGNITION:

Amy taught her daughter to make home made noodles!  Talk about patience!  I’d love to have her teach ME how to make noodles!

Joylyn took her kids to the park and stayed longer than she had planned!

Way to go ladies!  I’m sure your kids had a fabulous day!

Monthly Goal:

Sometimes us women are WAY too hard on ourselves and I think that we need to celebrate our accomplishments rather than dwell on our weaknesses.  So this month’s goal is to focus on the positive things you do.  Then leave a comment about something good you did that day.  Every mom needs a little recognition and we all know that our husbands and children don’t always give it to us so I say, let’s toot our own horn!  It doesn’t have to be huge.  It could simply be, “Today, I really wanted to yell at my kids and I didn’t!”  Let us celebrate your accomplishments with you.  Because focusing on our best qualities can be hard I’m going to motivate you with a little bit of a prize.  The person I get the most comments from will win a $25 gift certificate to a restaurant in their area.  If there is a tie then I will do a random drawing.  Please only leave one comment at day.  No fair leaving ten every day.  I will participate in this as well and post it on my daily blog posts.

Today’s Activity:

Plan an upcoming Birthday party.  If your kids are like mine they love to plan and talk about their next birthday even if it is eleven months away.

Note:

If there is a birthday coming up right away you can do some detailed planning, otherwise just let your kids brain storm about their dream birthday party.

Evaluate:

Max’s 6th birthday is just around the corner.  At first he said he wanted a baseball party but then it was a Batman party and then an Iron Man Party and then a Super Hero party.  Personally I thought the baseball party was a great idea and he had a super hero party last year so I did a little manipulating.  I told him a few game ideas that I had for an indoor baseball party and he seemed semi excited but then I thought of something that I knew he couldn’t turn down.  Pinatas are generally hit with bats and he LOVES pinatas!  So there you have it, we will be having a baseball party.

Prepare:

Next Thursday we will be having a family etiquette dinner so if today is your grocery shopping day then plan for a really nice formal meal.

Month Goal:

The nice thing I did for my kids today was bring them along on my birthday celebration.  We spent the weekend at Daniels Summit snowmobiling and doing the kids favorite thing (jumping from bed to bed in the hotel room).

PS…HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!  I’m 30 but I still feel like I’m 19!

NOW LETS GET STARTED!

Monthly Goal:

Help create a more peaceful environment in your home by playing uplifting music everyday for the month of October.  Music can help clear your mind of all the junk that we let seep in and it also has a way of calming down your kids and I’m sure we could all handle a little more tranquility in our homes.

Today’s Activity:

Get your kids together and pull out your photo albums or set up a slide show on your computer.  Enjoy this time together celebrating the fun times you have had together.

Note:

This is a no guilt website!  Organizing my photo albums is one of those things that is always on my to do list and never gets crossed off.  The truth is your kids aren’t going to care if they are viewing photos from the back of your digital camera or from a miraculous scrapbook; they are just going to enjoy having mom right by their side talking about how cute they were as babies.

GIVEAWAY!

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

I’m getting so excited for our official launch next week.  My main worry is promotion so I wanted to offer this great giveaway to help get mediocre mom’s name out there in your communities.

In recent years it has been discovered that using American Sign Language is a great way to communicate with your children before they can vocalize their needs.  Not to mention that you can tell them to be quiet or sit still in public places without having to yell at them.

My cute friend Andrea from high school created a great program for teaching your children sign language and has also had a lot of success teaching it to her own children.  She has offered to giveaway a fabulous Signing 4 Baby 2 DVD set with a quick reference guide for when you are on the go.  You can learn more by clicking on the logo below.

Here’s how to enter (We are still getting used to this website thing and having a few formatting issues but I didn’t want to delay the giveaway to fix them, thanks for your patience!):

Follow me here on Twitter (FYI, I don’t really get the twitter thing so please bare with me).

Become a fan on facebook (you could even go the extra mile and mention this website in your status).

Last and FOR SURE not least tell your friends about mediocremom.com on your blog and either leave me a comment with your blog address or email me at mediocremomsguide@gmail.com so I can check it out.

To make your entry official (so I can track it)…Leave a comment here and let me know which way you chose to enter and what you think about the  website.  You can learn more about mediocremom.com here.

Thanks so much for your help!  The winner will be announced on October 1st, 2009, the date of the official launch.
