Today’s Activity:

Make up silly rules.

Note:

Some ideas are “No Smiling”, “Having fun isn’t allowed”, “Don’t you dare eat your peas!”…it’s amazing how well blatant revers psychology can work on little ones.

Evaluate:

Tonight I had superbly whinny kids so I resolved the problem by congratulating them on being so sad.  I would say, “Wow, Elese that crying is so good!” then she would laugh and I would say, “Hey stop it!  No smiling!  Stop smiling it’s against the rules.”  Of course I had a very dramatic frown on my face when I said this.  Max would just laugh and try to use his hands to turn my frown into a smile.  Then when I told them to get into their PJ’s which normally causes them to whine I said, “Go get in your pajamas and I better hear crying when you do it.”  Max took it to heart and mustered up his very best fake cry.  I congratulated him on his good work while Elese laughed and laughed.  This laughter of course earned her a threat of going into time out for being happy.  This little game sure did cheer up my grumpy kids so I highly suggest it.

Today’s Activity:

Have a girls night out.

Note:

If you can’t find a sitter then bring the kids along.

Evaluate:

My childhood friend Angel came and helped me paint our new place while my hubby was out of town and I’ve been promising her I’d treat her to dinner.  Not only did she help paint but she even climbed up on the big scary ladder to paint the inside of the stairwell.  I was so impressed because I was terrified.  Well I finally figured out a time to do it but my husband has a shoot so I would have the kids and didn’t want to pay a sitter.  I had suggested that we get take out and just hang out at my place when she said, “Why don’t we bring the kids and have a picnic at the park?”  What a brilliant idea especially for a girl without any kids of her own.  She’s a saint.  Not only do I get to hang out with my friend and visit but my kids will think I’m the greatest mom ever because I’m letting them stay up past bedtime to play at a park.  To save some money I fed the kids before we went because we all know that if there is playground equipment available they aren’t going to eat anyway.
